Margie by E. V. Cunningham pseudonym of Howard Fast (signed bookplate) William Morrow First Edition Description: Hardback book published by William Morrow in 1966. The copyright date is 1966, the same as the date at the bottom of the title page. In addition, my guide to identifying first editions says that up to 1974, if no further printings are listed on the copyright page, that it is a first printing. Bookplate signed by the author without inscription or personalization laid in. From the Dust Jacket: Age 23, dark hair, blue eyes and a lovely, perfect size six. That is Margie Beck, a model for M.P. (for Marvin Potnik) Creations, a high-class 7th Avenue creator of women's ensembles. Margie is also the charming, wacky innocent who does not court trouble but who has trouble thrust upon her. And oh what trouble. It begins the day she inadvertently walks off with a $17,000 mink coat and a $90,000 bracelet belonging to the wife of the very wealthy Republican Governor of New York State. Her day also includes Joey Montoso, a Cleveland torpedo who knows a good mink coat when he sees one; three hoodlums from the Dravinian Embassy who understandably mistake Margie for an oil-rich countess; and General Cadmium Alexander, a stocky, scheming, pop-eyed would-be killer who would shoot Margie if he could adjust the silencer to his 706 Luger. And then there are Margie's rescuers, her 245-pound behemoth of a boyfriend who is terrified of his own strength, and a brilliant young dress designer whose wits make up for his lack of brawn. All in turn are pursued by the ineffable Police Commissioner Comaday and District Attorney Larry Cohen. How Margie's rescuers save Margie and what happens when Margie walks into the Governor's apartment with his wife's mink coat and bracelet make up the exciting denouement of this witty, wry novel. If you are already a fan of E.V. Cunningham's girls, Margie will be a delightful addition to your collection. And if this is your first Cunningham adventure, prepare yourself for a rollicking good time. Note on first editions: If this book is listed as a first edition, it will also be a first printing. We do not consider later printings to be first editions. We know the difference between a publisher's edition and a book club edition and will always disclose book club editions. If we aren't sure, we will so indicate. Note on condition descriptions: In our written descriptions, we use the standard professional bookseller's condition grading on our items (fine, near fine, very good, good, poor). We believe that you deserve to know exactly what you will be getting if you buy our item. We describe each item carefully. If the condition description doesn't mention a remainder mark or ex-library markings, they do not exist. No hidden reserve on auction items. If you bid our starting price and are the only bidder, the item is yours. See our other auction and store items for lots of autographed first edition and collectable books. We specialize in Science Fiction and Fantasy but also have general fiction, mystery and nonfiction. We usually have over 400 autographed Easton Press books available for purchase. Payment: We accept all forms of PayPal Payment. Unless a delay in payment is agreed to by us before purchase, payment is expected within 48 hours of our sending an invoice. Buyers taking more than 48 hours to pay without that agreement will not receive feedback. Note:Paying with a PayPal echeck (bank or other financial institution transfer) will delay shipping until PayPal informs us that the transfer has completed. This can take 4 or 5 days for US banks (occasionally longer) and up to 2 weeks for international (usually more like 11 days). Payment by PayPal funds or credit card gets immediate shipping. Shipping and Packing: General Information: We always ship in sturdy new boxes with premium heavy duty packing tape, bubblewrap and filler to keep the item away from the sides of the box, unless requested otherwise. Click on the 'Shipping and payments' tab near the top of this item to see the options and costs for shipping this item to your location. The different shipping options we use are described below. Please note that many countries have restrictions on the import of certain goods and sometimes on the maximum value that can be shipped to the country by various shipping methods. Priority Mail International insurance cannot be purchased for all countries and some limit the amount of insurance that can be purchased (default indemnity coverage seems to apply to all countries). Details on shipping conditions by country can be found on the United States Post Office web site. Shipping History: We have shipped well over 6,000 packages (containing more than 10,000 items), with more than 1000 of those packages going to international destinations, since we started selling in 2002. We have not had a report of a book damaged in transit since shortly after we started selling (it took us a couple of damaged shipments to learn how to package books properly to be sure they wouldn't get damaged). In the first years, our exprience was that the post office would lose a package about every one to two years. Then the post office put better tracking measures in place and it has been well over 10 years since a customer has reported a lost shipment (packages do still occasionally get sorted incorrectly, delaying delivery but that is fairly rare). Sales Tax Beginning January 1, 2019, eBay will start collecting sales tax on items being purchased for shipment to states that have passed legislation requiring that sales tax be collected on items being sold for shipment to their state. This is being done by eBay, I have no control over it. At the present time, I will still be responsible for collecting California Sales tax on items shipped to a California address. Unless you are a reseller with a valid California Seller's Permit buying this item to resell, we are required by California law to collect sales tax for all items shipped to or delivered to addresses in California or picked up from our location. The checkout system cannot handle the complexities of sales tax in California where the sales tax rate varies by where the item is being delivered. We have setup the shipping calculator to charge sales tax at 9.00% for those who do not want to wait for us to invoice you. If you wait for our invoice, we will adjust the sales tax to be correct for the location you say we will be shipping to. California resellers need to provide us with your permit number before we can remove the sales tax from your invoice.
